Reparát: an education podcast

Staff writer · Czech Radio Plus

Weekly articles that deliver the core of an episode in 400 words and still leave a reason to listen.

Reparát is a Czech Radio Plus podcast about what actually works in education. Instead of listing problems, it looks for proven practice: what someone has already tried, why it worked, and where the limits are. In Czech public service media, it is the first large project built on the principles of constructive (solutions) journalism.

The audience is mainly teachers, principals and other people in education looking for concrete inspiration and arguments for change. As a staff writer, I write the articles that accompany each episode: I pull out what matters most, ground the topic in data and examples, and pick the guest quotes that move the argument forward.

The text has to do two jobs at once. It delivers roughly two thirds of the episode, so readers come away with a clear grasp of the topic, yet it must not be so complete that listening loses its point. The headline and lead also work on their own in podcast apps, where people see them without the rest of the article, so they have to explain what the topic is and why it should matter to them.

Throughout, I keep the tone factual and free of moralising. No alarmist phrases, no uncritical optimism: name the tension, show what helps, and don’t hide where the approach runs into trouble.
